Notable sights in Ella include the Ella Gap, Ravana Ella Falls, and Little Adam's Peak, along with numerous other picturesque landscapes, as well as a visit to the Ravana Falls and caves. These falls are named after the legendary king Ravana, who is associated with the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. According to legend, Ravana, the king of Sri Lanka at that time, abducted princess Sita and concealed her in the caves located behind this waterfall, now referred to as the Ravana Ella Cave. The motive behind the abduction is said to be revenge for the disfigurement of his sister by Rama, Sita's husband, and his brother Laxmana. At that time, the cave was enveloped by dense forests amidst the wilderness. It is also believed that Rama’s queen bathed in a pool formed by the water cascading from this waterfall. It is said that Ravana played the Ravanahatha here. After checking into your hotel, you may visit the Kataragama Murgan Temple later in the evening.
