Habarana
Habarana is a city located in the Anuradhapura district of Sri Lanka and is a popular tourism
focal point to travel to nearby tourist attractions. It is also the starting point for safari to nearby
jungle and Minneriya sanctuary that’s mainly popular of elephants.
- Climb Sigiriya Lion Rock
One of the notable architectural sites in Sri Lanka, Sigiriya also known as Lion rock is an
ancient rock fortress that is accessible by steep stairs and is home to the ruins of an ancient 5th
century city.
This place holds great significance in the history of the nation and is one of the most
spectacular architectural wonder around Habarana. It is situated around 15 kilometers away
from the city and is easily accessible by a taxi or tuk-tuk.
Sigiriya is also listed under UNESCO’s World Heritage Site and is a must visit place for anyone
travelling to Sri Lanka.
- Safari at Minneriya National Park
Previously a wildlife sanctuary, Minneriya National Park is the perfect choice for nature
lovers especially if you want to witness a glorious elephant gathering.
The park is also one of the Important Bird Areas (IBA) in Sri Lanka. Apart from the largest
mammal on earth, the elephant, the park also inhabits two endemic monkeys of Sri Lanka i.e.
purple-faced langur and toque macaque, deer species, sloth, grey slender loris, leopard, bear, a
lot of bird species and reptilians.
Park also holds a third century reservoir constructed by the ruler of that era and you can enjoy
the thrill and beauty of this nature’s trail via a ride through our adventurous jungle safari. The
park is located around half to one hour away from Habarana and you can easily reach via taxi
or a jeep safari ride.
- Visit Dambulla Cave Temple
Another architectural and cultural marvel of Sri Lanka that you cannot miss out is the Dambulla
Cave temple. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a cave monastery with five sanctuaries and is
the largest best preserved cave temple complex of the country which has remained as a holy
pilgrimage centre for 22 centuries.
The temple has various Buddhist mural paintings throughout the surface and also has 157
statues depicting various Buddha postures and other religious architect. It is considered as one
of the most magnificent Buddhist complexes in Southern Asia with its intricate designs and
interiors and continued tradition of Buddhist traditions and rituals.
- Experience Bullock Cart Ride at Habarana
Everyone wants to experience a glimpse to the good old days and what’s the best way to live it
than the ride on a bullock cart, right? You can encounter this traditional Sri Lankan mode of
transportation in the village of Habarana on a pathway amidst lush green paddy fields. With a
30 minute ride you can steadily enjoy the farm life of Sri Lanka. Seems like a good travel
memory to have right!!!

grown using a cutting from the tree in Bodh Gaya, India under which Lord Buddha attained
enlightenment.

Lovamahapaya, hills of Mihintale, Samadhi Buddha statue, Buddhist temple Isurumuniya,

Viharaya and various dagobas. To get a glimpse into the history and culture of the country,
Anuradhapura is the best place to visit by any traveller.
- Climb Pidurangala Rock
Interested in a good climb and hiking to get that beautiful panoramic view! Pidurangala Rock
caves is a must place for you to go. It is a gigantic rock formation located near the Sigiriya rock
and also houses a rock temple on the way. It is recommended to hike to Pidurangala rock
during sunrise to get the best view for sunrise and also Sigiriya rock.
It will take around half an hour or more to complete the hike totally dependent on your own
ability though. Reaching on the top will give you a 360-degree view of the nearby area worth
seeing. Stay there in the calm and enjoy a quiet time on the rock.
